Emergency Management

Swinomish Emergency Management coordinates mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities for the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and provides emergency management assistance in disaster situations. The Tribe is prepared in the event of a power failure from a storm surge, blocked ingress or egress from flooding, or other climate-related emergencies.

The Swinomish Utility Authority manages the Tribe’s water distribution and sewer collection systems. As part of the Tribe’s climate adaptation action plan, the Utility Authority better secured the Tribe’s water supply by building a new 200,000+ gallon water tank. This ensures that if for some reason the water lines to the Swinomish Reservation are damaged or broken, the residents would still have access to clean water. The Utility Authority also secured its own emergency generator, enabling it to pump water if electricity is otherwise inaccessible.
